Kimathi Donkor has emerged winner of the De’Longhi Art Projects Artist Award for 2019. The annual award (in its fourth year), which includes a cash prize of £2,500, is presented to an artist on display within Arts Project at the London Art Fair’s section dedicated to innovative contemporary work.
Over the years, a buzz has gown around contemporary African art. International art galleries and auction houses have ventured into the sales of African art with certain names like Ben Enwonwu, El Anatsui, Yusuf Grillo, Njideka Akunyili headlining the news with their works recording breaking sales. More and more, the interest in African art is growing and so are new names being identified in the space.
It’s the season to be jolly. Homes and public spaces are decked all around in colourful decors in sync with the festivity, but the best part is in the giving and exchange of gifts as everyone plays Santa with one another.
Deciding on the perfect gift can be a real chore. However, if your friend or loved one is a sucker for art and jazzed-up spaces, or remotely has interest in remarkable hand-crafted things, your go-to option is a piece of art. Art is beautiful. Art is timeless.
As the year gradually runs to its end, Artyrama is pleased to present a few hand selected artists whose works will make the ideal gifts for the festive season.
The Art of Giving, our seasonal shop, features a mix of new and known artists, whose work span various media including painting, drawing, mixed media, and illustrations from artists like Yetunde Odediran, Mcdonald Iheme, Patrick Akpojotor, Wallace Juma, Oladotun Abiola and more.
